The Jaredian Design Group, in conjunction with its sub consultants, designed a replacement facility for the existing Charles A. “Tappy” Fire Station on St. Croix. The existing fire station is a 2,300 square-foot facility that was severely damaged by Hurricane Maria. The replacement facility will be approximately 7000 square feet, and it will include fire-services functions as well as emergency medical needs along with the VI Police Department Sub Station that is located nearby. Another function included is the 600 square-foot Saferoom, which will be utilized by the personnel in the fire station as well as some residents in the area seeking shelter during inclement weather. The structure is designed to the most stringent earthquake and windstorm requirements. The superstructure will be constructed entirely of concrete walls and roofing.
